From an early age Ben Harper seemed destined for a future in music, spending countless hours in his grandparents’ Folk Music Center and Museum in Claremont, CA. As a teenager he had focused on the slide guitar before specializing even further by taking on the unique lap slide guitar, the Weissen born. From his earliest folk/blues roots, Harper continually expanded his musical vocabulary incorporating rock, soul, reggae and funk into a distinct style that has earned him two Grammies and international acclaim. A restless performer, Harper’s best known musical companions might be the Innocent Criminals, with whom he has recorded three albums but he has also toured and recorded with the Blind Boys of Alabama, and as a solo artist. The Relentless 7 is the latest vehicle for Harper’s impressive musical agenda.
