To call anticipation of English-born singer/songwriter Corinne Bailey-Rea's self titled debut high would be a vast understatement. The album entered the British charts at number one (one of only four British females in history to accomplish this feat) after a BBC poll predicted that she would be the top breakthrough act of 2006. Across the pond the record cracked the Billboard Top 20 in the States, with Bailey-Rae even guesting on "Saturday Night Live." Tragically, work on her follow-up was derailed by the death of her husband. Four years and four million records sold later she has returned with the unyieldingly personal, "The Sea," a meditation on both despair and hope that has already been nominated for this year's prestigious Mercury "Short List" award.
