New Orleans has stamped it's distinct musical imprint on countless musical acts but few have taken that blueprint and expanded on it in as many varied directions as Galactic. Since their start in the Crescent City in 1994, the original instrumental sextet expanded to eight members; pared back down to six; added a vocalist; and finally returned to their original instrumental selves in a quintet format. Tossing such unexpected ingredients as electronica, hip-hop and world influences into a recipe that was already heavy on funk, blues and rock resulted in a uniquely original sound that earned the band the respect of such legends as The Meters and the Neville Brothers, with whom they have shared stages.
