The Life is good Playmakers began as a Boston-based grassroots nonprofit. Working locally with child care providers, the Playmakers put special emphasis on the area’s most underserved communities. Now, in addition to our work in the Boston area, our training and support reaches all six New England states, with a presence in New York City and Philadelphia as well.
Family and Children’s Aid (FCA) of Danbury, CT is an example of one of our most successful partnerships in the region. FCA provides high quality programs and services throughout western Connecticut to heal and support children and families in crisis. The agency has implemented the Playmakers Powerplay program since 2006, making it a key component of their treatment for thousands of children facing significant social and emotional challenges. The exceptional results that stemmed from the FCA’s adoption of our program have gained the attention of other nonprofit agencies, and are widely praised as a best practices approach to social service.
In October, 2011, FCA opened a 16,000-square-foot Harmony Center. The centerpiece of this new location is the ‘Playmaker Village,’ a beautifully-designed interior space where children can openly experience the healing power of play. In 2012, the FCA plans to host a series of training retreats for other providers from across the state, empowering new organizations to make use of the Playmakers’ approach.
