Bring It, 2023: A Playlist

By: Matt Keohan

Fresh start. New beginning. Clean slate.

These phrases are all too common this time of year, when much of the culture makes us feel that we need to dispose of 2022 like rotten fridge food, never to be spoken of again—like the choices you made and experiences you endured lost all their value as the NYE ball dropped.

What’s that saying, ‘Don’t throw out the refrigerator with the rotten food’? That doesn’t sound right, but humor us. Maybe the dawn of a new year is a time not to “start fresh,” but to take some inventory of your fridge. (Yes, we are still going with this analogy). Maybe that hairy tikka masala from November needs to go, but that perfectly good Worcestershire sauce will come in handy one day, even though now you don’t quite know how, what it is, or how to spell it.

Maybe you don’t need a theatrical life overhaul. Maybe you just need to enact some light learnings from yesteryear. Maybe this blog was written for someone in the community to tell us what Worcestershire sauce is. Maybe you just need to find some new tunes to usher you in properly.

Maybe we can help with one of those.

Check out this 20-track playlist that we think best encapsulates the hope and optimism of the new year, without all the weighty stuff. The essence of this magical musical journey is less about tearing it down and more about, in the angelic words of Florence + The Machine, “shakin’ it up.”
