Imagine a retreat filled with passionate educators, Hawaiian traditions, yoga, and playful learning. That's what took place in Lahaina, HI last week. After wildfires devastated their community, Janelle H. – a powerful educator and community activist– reached out to our team to support the courageous teachers whose service to the children of Lahaina never wavered despite their own devastating losses and personal struggles.

Last week, Chief Playmaker Steve Gross and Lead Trainer and Director of Training & Partnerships Alicia Barnatchez, traveled to Maui to hold a training retreat for 15 local educators. There the teachers shared stories, laughed together, cried together, played together, and explored powerful ways to help children rekindle feelings of confidence, community, and joy.

One participant called the retreat a "symphony of healing.” Another said, “This retreat helped me discover the simple yet transformative elements that can take connection and learning to fun and engaging- which is exactly what I hoped for.”

We're excited to welcome our new Playmakers in Lahaina who are eager to bring the healing power of play to the children of Lahaina.
