An Implausible Dream Comes True

Our mother Joan was the first powerful optimist in our lives. Her life wasn’t easy, but she managed to bring laughter, love and a steady dose of mischief to her six kids, even during the most turbulent times. She fed our imaginations daily with her clever sketches, offbeat songs and outlandish stories, often assisted nimbly by Dr. Seuss. 

Dr. Seuss’s books had long since liberated kids from the drudgery of Dick and Jane primers, but most other kids’ books during our childhood were still stale snoozers. Fortunately, Joan called on the doctor often, praising those wild illustrations and riding the rhythmic rollercoaster of rhymes right along with us, straight through our alleged bedtimes. Together, Joan and Dr. Seuss formed a dream tag team of creativity, humor and optimism. 

The true magic of Dr. Seuss stories is how they deliver profound, timeless messages—ones even young kids can start to grasp—without ever getting preachy or condescending to readers. How the Oobleck do they pull that off? Sure, they have masterfully magnetic characters and wordplay, but most all they have fun. And they spread that fun to the world, one wocket, wumbus and bippo-no-bungus at a time.

At Life is Good, we’ve always been inspired by that combination of depth and fun. We’re serious about spreading the power of optimism, and we think that mission is best served in part through art and words both funny and absurd. We’ve learned from many customers who’ve been through great adversity that laughter, like optimism, is most powerful in the hardest times.

We find it comically preposterous that fifty years after Dr.Seuss first helped spring our imaginations loose, we somehow get the chance to team up with Joan’s original partner in rhyme. We hope this dream collaboration brings you, and all Whos far and near, much light, laughter and a bit of mischief this holiday season.
