Marcus and his mom holding pizza

Summer’s just around the corner, which means cookouts are upon us. Get your grill ready with a quick warmup (pun intended) and try out this recipe for grilled, backyard pizza— brought to you by Life is Good Photo Editor, Marcus Howard and his master chef mom, Tanya. And take it from the dynamic duo, it’s WAY more fun to do when you get the whole fam involved!

Ingredients:

Pizza toppings

Steak and Cheese Pizza

  • 1 pizza dough
  • 10 oz. cooked shaved steak
  • 6 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 oz. shredded cheddar cheese

Sautéed Veggies

  • 1 medium sliced onion
  • 1 medium sliced bell pepper
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushroom
  • 1 cup of marinara sauce

Homemade Garlic Oil

  • 2 chopped cloves of garlic simmered in ¼ cup olive oil

Watch the Tutorial:

Steps:

  1. Once your dough gets warm and soft, sprinkle some flour onto the dough and rolling surface. Press the dough out until you get the shape you’re looking for. Once you have the desired shape, gently stretch out the dough by twirling the dough in a circle. Let dough sit for a few minutes.
  2. Before grilling, make sure that if you’re using meat, you’ve cooked it all the way through. Marcus and Tanya recommend sautéing your veggies first, as well.
  3. Thoroughly oil both sides of your pizza dough.
  4. Make sure the grill is on medium heat. Place the dough flat on the grill, and leave it to cook for 5 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
  5. Brush your dough with a little more oil before flipping it over. Once flipped, quickly add your sauce and toppings. Once all the toppings are on, set the heat to low so that your pizza can stay on the grill until the dough is cooked all the way through and the cheese has melted.
  6. Once the pizza has cooked all the way through, use tongs to slide the pizza onto your board. Once it cools, cut into slices.
  7. ENJOY!!
