Scuba Jake Watercolor

Landlocked for the summer? No worries—just take to the water, paint style. Life is Good Graphic Designer, Kaiti, will show you how in this watercolor tutorial where she recreates one of our favorite scenes: Jake scuba diving!

What you’ll need:

Watercolor Materials
  • Pencil and eraser
  • Watercolor paper
  • T-shirt artwork inspiration (Kaiti is painting our Scuba Jake Crusher Tee)
  • Paint brushes
    • Big, medium, and small (for the details)
  • Marker
  • 2 jars of water
    • One to clean brushes
    • One to mix with paints
  • Water color paint
  • Paint palette (or paper plate)
  • Paper towels

Steps:

  1. Do a light, rough sketch of the drawing.
  2. Create your palette (Kaiti uses a mix of blues, yellows, greens, and white).
  3. Start painting from light to dark. When the first layer of lighter colors is complete, let it dry before moving onto the darker colors.
  4. Start painting the darker colors. Once completed, let the layer dry.
  5. Begin adding in details (outlines, bubbles, etc.). Kaiti recommends moving from left to right so as not to smudge your work.
  6. Add Life is Good & admire your masterpiece!
